En el vibrante espectro de grises del arte contemporáneo, ciertas estrellas brillan con una luz tan peculiar que capturan la atención no solo de les conocedores, sino también de aquelles que apenas rozan el universo en el que resplandecen. Marina, finalista de la segunda temporada de Drag Race España, es una de estas estrellas, cuyo viaje desde los primeros destellos de fascinación por tacones y pelucas en su infancia, hasta convertirse en una fuerza indomable en el mundo del drag, nos invita a una odisea de autodescubrimiento, expresión y arte sin fronteras.

"De mi voluntad de expresarme en mi feminidad", comienza Marina, recordando los orígenes de su interés por el drag, un camino que la llevó a explorar no solo el espectro de su identidad de género sino también la riqueza de su expresión artística. Su historia es un testimonio de cómo la fascinación puede convertirse en vocación y cómo la vocación, a su vez, puede transformarse en una forma de vida.

En el escenario, “Marina es una mujer misteriosa, juguetona y un poco altiva”, un personaje que ha evolucionado pero mantenido su esencia a lo largo de los años. "Sigue siendo bastante la misma aunque las circunstancias han cambiado profesionalmente", reflexiona. Esta coherencia en su personaje ha sido su brújula, guiándola a través de las transformaciones en su carrera y vida personal.

Sin embargo, la libertad de expresión de Marina choca con las limitaciones inherentes a cualquier forma de arte que se enmarque dentro de expectativas y narrativas preestablecidas. "Hago mucho lo que me apetece sin pensar demasiado en el personaje porque puede ser limitante", admite. Su arte desafía constantemente los límites del drag, buscando una autenticidad que trasciende las convenciones y etiquetas.

La fluidez es un tema recurrente en la vida de Marina, no solo en términos de su identidad de género sino también en su expresión artística. "Es una cosa que entiendo yo sin tener que explicarlo, y sobre todo fluye", declara sobre su identidad de género. Esta fluidez se refleja en su enfoque hacia el género en su arte, una danza intelectual de expresión libre que desmantela las normas establecidas, resultando en un nuevo mundo de posibilidades ilimitadas.

Tras su participación en Drag Race España, Marina experimentó una transformación en su proceso creativo, ahora marcado por una mayor reflexión y madurez. "El programa me ayudó a entenderme mucho mejor y saber cómo comunicarme", comparte, subrayando cómo estas experiencias han enriquecido su arte y la relación con su audiencia.

Su evolución artística la ha llevado a identificarse más con el transformismo, buscando un equilibrio entre éste y el drag, dos mundos que para Marina, son distintos pero complementarios. "Me interesa lograr un equilibrio entre el drag y el transformismo clásico", afirma, evidenciando su deseo de explorar las raíces y las nuevas expresiones de su arte.

Marina también reflexiona sobre el mainstream y la heteronormatividad, criticando la falta de fantasía y creatividad en estos ámbitos. "Yo me relaciono muy poco con la heteronorma, no hay mucha en mi burbuja", comparte, celebrando la riqueza de expresión encontrada en la comunidad LGBTQ+ y su resistencia a conformarse a las normas populares.

En cuanto a su futuro, Marina anticipa proyectos que incluyen colaboraciones y una incursión en el teatro, una ambición de llevar el drag a nuevos escenarios y audiencias. "Hay 2 cosas en mente ahora mismo", revela, señalando hacia un horizonte donde su arte continúa desafiando, inspirando y evolucionando. Una es una colaboración y la otra un proyecto personal, y ambas estarían destinadas para el 2024. Al momento de nuestra entrevista, Marina explicó encontrarse aún en una fase embrionaria de estos proyectos. Sin embargo, nos adelantó que uno de los proyectos involucraría llevar el drag al lenguaje teatral, presentando una obra de teatro. “Sería un poco llevar el drag al teatro y el teatro al drag — juntar esas cosas porque creo que ese formato es algo que intuyo.”

La historia de Marina es un relato de transformación, de una estrella que no se conforma con brillar dentro de líneas predefinidas y rígidas, sino que busca crear su propio universo de posibilidades. En su viaje, nos recuerda la importancia de la autenticidad, la expresión sin barreras y el poder transformador del arte sincero y no restringido. Marina: Shaping New Horizons in Drag and Transformism

In the vibrant spectrum of contemporary art's grays, certain stars shine with such a peculiar light that they capture the attention not only of connoisseurs but also of those who barely brush against the universe in which they shine. Marina, a finalist from the second season of Drag Race España, is one of these stars, whose journey from the first flashes of fascination with heels and wigs in her childhood to becoming an indomitable force in the world of drag invites us on an odyssey of self-discovery, expression, and boundless art.

"From my will to express myself in my femininity," begins Marina, recalling the origins of her interest in drag, a path that led her to explore not just the spectrum of her gender identity but also the richness of her artistic expression. Her story is a testimony of how fascination can turn into a vocation and how that vocation, in turn, can transform into a way of life.

On stage, "Marina is a mysterious, playful, and somewhat haughty woman," a character that has evolved yet maintained its essence over the years. "She remains quite the same even though circumstances have changed professionally," she reflects. This consistency in her character has been her compass, guiding her through transformations in her career and personal life.

However, Marina's freedom of expression clashes with the limitations inherent to any form of art framed within pre-established expectations and narratives. "I do a lot of what I feel like doing without thinking too much about the character because it can be limiting," she admits. Her art constantly challenges the boundaries of drag, seeking an authenticity that transcends conventions and labels.

Fluidity is a recurring theme in Marina's life, not only in terms of her gender identity but also in her artistic expression. "It's something I understand without having to explain it, and above all, it flows," she declares about her gender identity. This fluidity is reflected in her approach to gender in her art, an intellectual dance of free expression that dismantles established norms, resulting in a new world of limitless possibilities.

After her participation in Drag Race España, Marina experienced a transformation in her creative process, now marked by greater reflection and maturity. "The show helped me understand myself much better and learn how to better communicate," she shares, highlighting how these experiences have enriched her art and her relationship with her audience.

Her artistic evolution has led her to identify more with transformism, seeking a balance between it and drag, two worlds that for Marina, are distinct yet complementary. "I am interested in achieving a balance between drag and classic transformism," she states, evidencing her desire to explore the roots and new expressions of her art.

Marina also reflects on mainstream culture and heteronormativity, criticizing the lack of fantasy and creativity in these spheres. "I interact very little with heteronormativity — there's not much of it in my bubble," she shares, celebrating the richness of expression found in the LGBTQ+ community and its resistance to conforming to popular norms.

As for her future, Marina anticipates projects that include a foray into theater, an ambition to bring drag to new stages and audiences. "There are 2 things in mind right now," she reveals, pointing towards a horizon where her art continues to challenge, inspire, and evolve. One is a collaboration, and the other a personal project, both of which would be destined for 2024. At the time of our interview, Marina explained she was still in the embryonic phase of these projects. However, she gave us a preview that one of the projects would involve bringing drag to the theatrical language, presenting a play. "It would be a bit of bringing drag to theater and theater to drag — merging those things because I believe that format is something I sense and understand naturally."

Marina's story is a tale of transformation, of a star that does not conform to shine within predefined and rigid lines, but rather seeks to create her own universe of unrestrained scenarios. In her journey, she reminds us of the importance of authenticity, barrier-free expression, and the transformative power of sincere and unrestricted art. In a world that often feels overwhelmingly defined by labels and expectations, Marina invites us to dream bigger, live more freely, and celebrate the infinite beauty of being genuinely ourselves.
