Drag Energy: Jazbazmaz’s Revolution of Joy and Authenticity
In the heart of Berlin's Tempelhofer Feld, an expansive public park with a history as an old airfield, a neon yellow, snakeskin print spectacle on 20cm high heel platform boots takes center stage. This is where the journey of Drag Energy began, a movement created by Jay, affectionately known as Jazbazmaz, a drag queen with a mission to offer an alternative to the conventional club and bar scene. Fueled by a desire for self-expression and clarity in sobriety, Jay ventured into this public space, transforming it into a runway for exploration and self-discovery. Through daily practices of walking, dancing, moving, and meditating—sober and wild—Jay tapped into a deep well of joy and authenticity, leading to the creation of Drag Energy workshops designed to challenge societal norms and empower individuals.
Drag Energy emerges as a vibrant universe where empowerment and play converge through embodiment workshops, inviting participants to shed societal expectations and embrace a more liberated version of themselves. This sassy somatic practice champions authenticity, encouraging individuals to experiment and explore their identities in a safe and supportive environment. Whether through meditation, warmup exercises, or catwalking with passion, the workshops foster a community of joy, connection, and radical freedom. Jay's vision extends beyond mere physical expression, delving into the emotional depths where difficult feelings like shame, anger, and trauma can surface, emphasizing the importance of a safer space for exploration and personal growth.
Behind the scenes, Jazbazmaz is a force of nature, a drag embodiment workshop creator, and facilitator whose life story is a testament to the transformative power of authenticity and community. With a rich background spanning across international festivals, costume design for blockbuster films, and charity initiatives, Jay's eclectic journey embodies the essence of Drag Energy. This initiative not only aims to liberate individuals from the oppressive systems of society but also to cultivate a world of compassion, connection, and radical self-expression. Through Drag Energy, Jay invites us all to step into our most fabulous selves, tear up societal norms, and join in building a more inclusive, fair, and compassionate future.
