Emolsa: the Superpower of Both

Emolsa Haasacha is a New York City based Ugandan fashionista/stylist, artist and model. Born and bred in Uganda, a developing country at odds with gender fluidity and where gender expressions is considered an anomaly. A boiling  desire to  break free from all society’s stereotypes was the foundation for his quest to championing change and visibility in his community.

Emolsa was inspired by the underground queerness and the absence of an open minded society to receive and embrace it. As a fashionista, he felt very often constrained by a community where everything mainstream fashion was either male or female, leaving absolutely NO grey area. His yearning to stir up change led him into the fashion industry where he gradually stepped into the limelight, gracing different fashion events with his dare-devil fashion sense. On one part, he was often labelled a “red carpet sensation” and on many occasions, a victim of internet trolling as “an emasculated society menace”.

His red carpet looks have pushed boundaries, defied norms, broke stereotypes, and made fashion statements. With his signature androgynous fashion sense, he stirred up debates and many viral moments on the Internet, prompting both hatred and love in equal measure, however, Emolsa paid no heed to the former. With a renegade’s unwavering spirit, he pushed forward and inspired many peers and youth that were scared to be their true selves, to step into the light and  express themselves without any gender limitations. Over the years, many have been seen to emulate , recreate or mimic his style and persona as a way of paying homage or draw inspiration from him. He nods to the gestures in appreciation as a humbling, show of reverence and a sign of acknowledgment he left a mark in his country before relocating to New York.

To date, his fashion game continues to leave a-lot of inspiration for the many people across the Internet, many of whom are fellow Africans and Ugandans in particular that follow him for  inspiration and Hope. On his radar of change is CHARITY, through his self-funded philanthropy for a few orphaned kids  and underground queer folks in Uganda who he hopes to be able to extend even more support through future programs.

His social media is proof that Emolsa continues to be a symbol of extreme masculinity with a pinch of femininity with an amazing personality and kindness as his crown. With his raging muscles and oozing melanin, Emolsa loves to surprise and is not afraid to live his androgynous lifestyle in full bloom. All eyes on Emolsa for his big concealed future plans, As the world awaits for what next he will unpack. In his own words, “ We are only half beings, until we tap into both our masculinity and femininity, that’s our  superpower”
